These photographs taken by photographer Ditte Isager show how different summer really can feel. From bright and cheery, to muted to subdued. I love all the colors of summer.

outdoor photography

I could log some serious hours here. While I won’t actually be sitting here this weekend, I’m hoping to get outside for most of it.  I have the Farmer’s Market, the Frisco BBQ Challenge, Westword Music Showcase, World Cup soccer watching and a little gardening all on my weekend radar. I still want to try a biscuit from the Denver Biscuit Company. Maybe this is the weekend. What are your weekend plans?

PS. Who is tired of the constant swarm of bees during the world cup games? Anyone?

p.s. i love you

Monday, May 31st, 2010

What is it about the photo booth that is so fun? The instant gratification? The, you better make this good because you only have 4 shots? Whatever it is, I never tire of them and love the story they tell. Albeit short. Fortunately the Ace has recognized this love and put a photo booth in their hotel(s). That’s Sam and Meghan on the left and Jevan and me on the right, post wedding day. A little blurry because it’s a photo copy but you get the idea.

For anyone who is new to this blog, whether it’s via Domestic Reflections or taking a look at Sam and Meghan’s wedding photos, welcome. I hope you’ll stay a while. I have tons more things to share, inspiring style muses, scouting trips and fantastic interiors planned for the summer. p.s. I love you isn’t just about loving Palm Springs, it’s about loving you guys too! So welcome, in the most Southern way I know. Hope you are having a fantastic holiday weekend.

marriage in the desert : joshua tree

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Palm Springs was a last minute trip and one Jevan and I couldn’t pass on. It’s not often two of your favorite people elope and also ask you to witness. Make that never. Getting married is typically such a momentous occasion. The location, the guest list, the flowers, the cake, the food, the dress. I could go on and on. It’s refreshing to see such a significant union paired down to the essentials; two people who love one another. Getting married in the desert couldn’t have been more fitting for these two. There was no stress, no pressure, no bridezilla. Only Sam and Meghan happier than I’ve ever seen them.

We made the hour long drive from Palm Springs to Joshua Tree, stopping at the wind turbines for only a minute. Of all places I’ve traveled, Joshua Tree is up there with being one of the most magical. Add in a couple that is madly in love and it’s instant sparks. Once in Joshua Tree National Park, we picked a perfect spot for the ceremony. It wasn’t hard because every direction we looked was the ideal spot. Meghan picked desert flowers for her bouquet and Sam’s pocket boutonniere. Connie, now known as Rev. Wohn, packed an incredible picnic of cheese, crackers, meats and fruit. We listened to music fitting for a wedding in the desert and feasted.

The ceremony was simple, personal and very touching. It was about Sam and Meghan and their love for one another. We took tons of photos, laughed, drank champagne and celebrated until the sun set. I feel so incredibly lucky to have been a part of this moment in their life. Sam and Meghan, I wish you a lifetime of happiness together. The best is yet to come.

little shop of… interior design

Friday, March 26th, 2010

You may have noticed over the past few weeks I’ve been updating you with projects in the works. I’m slowly trying to transition this blog to be more interior design focused. And focus is good, right? I still plan to post about food, music, fashion and all the things I love, only in a more organized manner. Fingers crossed I can stick with it.

As the work week rolls to an end, I don’t have a specific project update ready to share. Instead, I thought I would end it with a couple of photos I tweeted recently. These tweets are a behind the scenes look at little bits of my work day. If you aren’t on twitter, you can see the entire collection here. And if you like, check the top right corner and you can access my twitter and flickr profiles to see what I’ve been up to whenever you like. I hope you have an incredible weekend!

style muse : mia farrow

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

For the longest time I’ve admired a woman who can look sexy, feminine and stylish in a pixie cut, Paige, you’re one of those gals, Brownie, you’re another. I don’t think I could ever pull it off without immediately wanting my hair back. There’s something brazen about a woman cutting her hair this short. Part of it is the confidence it actually takes to make it to your stylist and commit to cutting almost everything off. Sure I’ve dreamt of it, but have I actually made the appointment? Um, that’s a no. The other part is the majority of the world considers hair a feminine feature. The more you have the more sensual you are, right? And cutting off your long locks immediately turns you into a 13 year old boy? I beg to differ.

When I was researching my style muse for the week I was immediately awe struck by Mia Farrow and her natural, casual beauty. Just so you know, my goal in finding an inspirational woman is not always deeply rooted in beauty or what she wears, even though she is gorgeous and seeing her pixie cut makes me wish I could pull it off myself. Often it’s what she does that seems so incredibly inspirational.

Aside from having 4 children of her own, 3 with André Previn and 1 with Woody Allen. She has adopted 11 children over about a 20 year span, take that Brad and Angelina. In between movie making and children rearing she has been a high profile advocate for children’s rights, working to raise funds and awareness for children in conflict affected regions, predominantly in Africa. She is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and has worked extensively to draw attention to the fight to eradicate polio, which she survived as a child. You can also find out more on her blog. It appears she updates it regularly about her goings on in Africa. How’s that for a pretty face?

On another note, have you listened to the Dutchess and the Duke? We saw them Tuesday night and I can’t stop listening to them.

Have a little listen.

spring in seattle

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Hellooo spring! I’ve been waiting for you. While it was snowing in parts of the country, Denver included, Jev and I snuck off to Seattle to spend the weekend with friends. Thanks Dom and Sal for the amazing hospitality, delicious food, gut wrenching laughs and even a little exercise. Jev and I got back just an hour or so ago and I’m busy today catching up but thought I would share a little Seattle springtime with you all. Everything is fluorescent AND pastel. Quite the contrast. Check back later this week for photos from the trip and an amazing Seattle home preview!

style muse : coco chanel

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Stylish, classic and always put together, Coco Chanel is the icon of the century. In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different. She built a dynasty on that phrase and you could easily do the same. There’s something to be said about putting a little more effort in the daily wardrobe, the home, art, food. Whatever it is you do or are wanting to do, put your spin on it and make it your own. Make yourself irreplaceable.

project inspiration

Friday, March 12th, 2010

I’m at the very beginning stages of a new project for a client and thought I would share. I love looking towards nature for inspiration. Whether its color, material or form, nature produces the most strikingly gorgeous imagery. On the opposite spectrum of nature is industry. All things man made. The complexity of a working factory down to the raw power of a well oiled machine has me enthralled.

perfect proportions

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

I just saw this and it immediately made me think of Jevan, only an older version. It even looks a little like him. From the jacket, to the hat, to the posture.
