Gift giving season is here. I asked a number of designers/friends/bloggers around the country to put together their picks for the holiday. The goal was to find small produced, hand made or often local gifts that aren’t mass produced and most importantly support local craftspeople and designers.
Today it’s all about gifts for Her. Check back everyday this week for more guides. And if this isn’t enough, feel free to check out 2009′s Gift Guide. Thanks to everyone who participated, I’m ecstatic about all your ideas, there are so many! There’s something for every woman in your life, from significant other to mom to best friend to grandmother.
ABOVE: Camp Comfort 1. Baggu Bags: 3 for $24. Baggus is one of my favorite gifts to give on any occasion. They are cute, super functional, and help you do your part by cutting back on shopping bags. Their website touts that using one Baggu for one year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags! Friends and family alike love these bags and they have 10 styles/sizes to choose from!
{Wit + Delight} 2. Clark’s Botanical’s Lip Tint. Alexandra Rose: $19. Great for adding just a little bit of color. This tint is a tribute to the foundation and the Clark’s Botanicals mission of bringing funding and awareness to spinal cord research. 3. Haily BOW, by Emma Dime: $22. The Hailey BOW is the perfect statement when you are wanting to add a bit of cuteness to your day. 4. And the Pursuit of Happiness, by Maira Kalman: $19. Or from Powell’s Books. A remarkable tribute to our history and a powerful reminder of the potential our future holds, from a true national treasure.
Poppy & Leo 5. Handmade Embroidery Scissors: $12. These handmade and fair trade, heirloom quality scissors are perfect for the crafter in your life.
K.I.D. Collective 6. The Morning Benders – Big Echo. $7. I always love to give music as gifts. This crew hails from San Francisco and has a California kind of pop sound. Perfect for the winter days ahead. 7. Bike Bell: $25. I was in the General Store this past weekend and spotted a bucket of bells. For the girl who has almost everything. Ding!
Alice Q. Foodie 8. Maison Bouche Chocolate: $12. Last year my husband gave me some of this chocolate for Christmas. It’s expensive, but amazing, and the large bars are really big. I love their milk chocolate because it’s darker than most, and therefore not too sweet. The Fleur de Sel and Praline bars are my favorites. 9. Flora Douville calendar: $16. Flora Douville is doing two calendars this year – the first one sports pretty little graphic illustrations similar to last year’s, but this second one is printed with smudgy watercolors that seem really fresh and new.
ABOVE: K.I.D. Collective 1.Verabel FOX Collaboration. Color Study II Locket. $54. I’m a sucker for all things Alyson Fox, add in Verabel, a Portland based jewelry designer and a vintage locket and I’m in love.
Camp Comfort 2. Rennes Pouch: I love Julia’s designs! These little Rennes leather pouches are made of beautiful soft leather and would make a great accessory to add to any friends arsenal.
Mustard and Sage: 3. Starling Bird Skull Necklace from LuxCoronette. $55. For your friend who has a little bit of a dark side, this sparrow skull necklace is made from recycled bullet casings. “Using bullets to create, and not destroy” – love that.
K.I.D. Collective 4. Anthology Magazine. $40. Print is not dead. Send your favorite magazine junkie a subscription to a brand new shelter magazine.
Camp Comfort 5. Sandra Juto Wrist Worms: $48. Perfect for friends living in cold weather climates! These adorable Wrist Worms come in a huge variety of colors and are all handmade by Sandra in Sweden.
Poppy & Leo 6. Naturally Shed Deer Antler Necklace: $36. A unique necklace with a little edginess. Would look great worn alone or layered with other pieces.
{Wit + Delight} 7. Laura Lombardi Copper Ladder Necklace. $40: Small pendant made from copper tube beads woven together with vintage copper chain is great for dressing up classic black. 8. Seasonal Vegetables Calendar: $50. One page poster/forever calendar (no dates) with a California-grown vegetable drawing for each month. Year-round crops have non-italicized numbers. Calendars are hand screen printed in 10 colors on recycled gray cover-stock paper. Because they are hand-pulled, each print is unique.
K.I.D. Collective 9.Tanner Goods Eye Glass Case: $70. I love this eye glass case. It’s based off a mid-60’s US Military standard issue case but updated with a few key details. And you may just get one made by yours truly.
Poppy & Leo 10. The Captain Fringe: $45. This stunning, hand woven piece can be worn as a scarf for necklace.
Cori Kindred 11. Japanese washi tape multi-roll dispenser by happytape. $29 + tape. A great way to organize your washi tape collection. These dispensers are handmade and available in 15 different colors.
ABOVE: Poppy & Leo 1. Manimal’s Vegan Moccasins: $200. These gorgeous moccasins are stylish, handmade and eco-frienldy.
K.I.D. Collective 2.Rifle Paper’s Portrait Calling Cards: 200 cards for $150. I adore Anna’s illustrations and now your name will always be associated with your face.
Mustard and Sage: 3. Farm Ruck Sack from MAKR Carry Goods: $160. Currently sold out through the MAKR site, but it’s also available online at Acrimony. Love the vintage style on this beautifully handcrafted rucksack, and I’ll bet your sister will too!
Camp Comfort 4. Valhalla Handbag – Large bag in camel. $289. I recently rediscovered Valhalla Brooklyn’s gorgeous handbags via Jennifer of Odette. I love the convertible feature of this bag, because sometimes you want short straps, sometimes long. 5. Iwona Ludyga Geode Ring: $160. When I spotted this ring online at San Francisco based shop Magpie & Rye, I fell instantly in love with it’s moody beauty! This would be an amazing gift for an extra special friend or girlfriend… especially helpful if you know their ring size!
Poppy & Leo 6. Tiny Envelope Necklace: $320. A beautiful handcrafted 14k gold necklace that can be hand-stamped with a personal name, date or message.
Cori Kindred 7. Recycled canvas carryall by Forestbound: $160. Alice uses vintage fabrics in her sturdy, gorgeous bags. This one would be perfect for hitting estate sales or flea markets!
K.I.D. Collective 8. Liebling – Ann Boot: $272. I never tire of this leather color or flat boots. Liebling shoes are handmade shoes produced in limited editions in Tel Aviv without the limited edition price tag.
Mustard and Sage: 9. Chunky Marled Loop Scarf from Wiksten: $150. A merino and silk blend scarf in the perfect shade of blue.

You have my favorite gift guides this year! By any chance, did you see that Valhalla bag in person? I want it so bad, but am having a hard time buying it sight unseen.
180/360, stop hesitating and buy the Valhalla bag immediately. Mine (in graphite) arrived yesterday and it’s impossibly lovely and well crafted.
thanks Lauren, we’ve been emailing back and forth discussing the merits of the bag.
