p.s. i love you

Monday, May 31st, 2010

What is it about the photo booth that is so fun? The instant gratification? The, you better make this good because you only have 4 shots? Whatever it is, I never tire of them and love the story they tell. Albeit short. Fortunately the Ace has recognized this love and put a photo booth in their hotel(s). That’s Sam and Meghan on the left and Jevan and me on the right, post wedding day. A little blurry because it’s a photo copy but you get the idea.

For anyone who is new to this blog, whether it’s via Domestic Reflections or taking a look at Sam and Meghan’s wedding photos, welcome. I hope you’ll stay a while. I have tons more things to share, inspiring style muses, scouting trips and fantastic interiors planned for the summer. p.s. I love you isn’t just about loving Palm Springs, it’s about loving you guys too! So welcome, in the most Southern way I know. Hope you are having a fantastic holiday weekend.

dream away

Friday, May 28th, 2010

If I were to dream up a home just for myself, this is a pretty good idea of what it might look like. Equal parts modern and rustic. One could even go so far as to say understated. Without the tiniest bit sounding cliche. And that’s not an easy thing to pull off. I love just about everything the Dutch do, so it’s no surprise I’m completely smitten with design studio Ina & Matt out of the Netherlands.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend my friends. We’re road tripping to Crested Butte (where Jevan and I got married) with some friends for some fun in the great outdoors.

I’m loving these photos styled by Robyn Glaser.  The turquoise along with pops of color would make any party more of a fiesta. Don’t you think?

marriage in the desert : joshua tree

Wednesday, May 26th, 2010

Palm Springs was a last minute trip and one Jevan and I couldn’t pass on. It’s not often two of your favorite people elope and also ask you to witness. Make that never. Getting married is typically such a momentous occasion. The location, the guest list, the flowers, the cake, the food, the dress. I could go on and on. It’s refreshing to see such a significant union paired down to the essentials; two people who love one another. Getting married in the desert couldn’t have been more fitting for these two. There was no stress, no pressure, no bridezilla. Only Sam and Meghan happier than I’ve ever seen them.

We made the hour long drive from Palm Springs to Joshua Tree, stopping at the wind turbines for only a minute. Of all places I’ve traveled, Joshua Tree is up there with being one of the most magical. Add in a couple that is madly in love and it’s instant sparks. Once in Joshua Tree National Park, we picked a perfect spot for the ceremony. It wasn’t hard because every direction we looked was the ideal spot. Meghan picked desert flowers for her bouquet and Sam’s pocket boutonniere. Connie, now known as Rev. Wohn, packed an incredible picnic of cheese, crackers, meats and fruit. We listened to music fitting for a wedding in the desert and feasted.

The ceremony was simple, personal and very touching. It was about Sam and Meghan and their love for one another. We took tons of photos, laughed, drank champagne and celebrated until the sun set. I feel so incredibly lucky to have been a part of this moment in their life. Sam and Meghan, I wish you a lifetime of happiness together. The best is yet to come.

I had an extra couple hundy to buy this bag. It would be perfect for meetings and laptop carrying (at least I think) as well as weekend adventures. I’m thinking it’s going to wear really well too. Sigh.

I’m playing catch-up this AM. I’ll try to get some photos from my weekend and super secret adventure up soon. I really can’t wait to share!

oh baby…

Friday, May 21st, 2010

I’m co-hosting a baby shower brunch in a few weeks for a good friend and the girls and I decided an evite just wouldn’t cut it. Isn’t it nice to get something in the mail other than junk? We also didn’t have the time to create totally custom letter press invites. Maybe it’s just me, but custom seems more appropriate for wedding invites and baby announcements? Anyway, I recently came across smudge ink. It’s truly the best of both worlds; a blank letter pressed card that is printable. All I needed to do was add details and print. Voila. Cute semi custom invites.

And, if you are in Denver you can find smudge ink at the Perfect Petal.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend. I have top secret plans this weekend that I can’t wait to share with you all next week! Until then, enjoy yours!

tres birds workshop

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

For the past 9 months I’ve had the pleasure to work alongside Tres Birds Workshop on the Quivas Street Residence. My time was spent on the interior lighting, bathes and cabinetry for the home. Details are coming together and the house is almost complete. So I thought I would give you a quick peek at one of my favorite exterior details, the brick. The bricks are mostly reclaimed and create an incredible pattern on the south side of the home. It’s so subtle not every passerby would notice. Part of the charm, I guess you could say.

Regardless of how much I think I know, design is always a humbling process. It teaches me patience, openness, and I’m constantly evolving. I love the process. Watching nothing turn into something. I love the creating of space. And hopefully it’s a space that can stand the test of time. More than anything, I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to work with such an incredible crew.

style muse : jane birkin

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

I’ll be the first to admit, I’m not much of a glam girl, even though I do attempt. I have the worst time deciding what to wear for a special event, like a wedding or a cocktail party. The dress, the accessories, the shoes, shelling out tons of cash for one night. I try to play it cool, but 9 times out of 10 I’m frantically searching for the right pieces days before the big event. The irony of it all, I wear my fair share of event-wear, and I idolize the girls who seem so put together. How do they do it? And so effortlessly? I either end up feeling like I’m trying too hard or not hard enough.

Above. Clockwise from top left: Photo (can’t seem to find the link to this image any longer), Tank, Wedge and Wide leg jeans. Photo, Black Dress or this alternative, Necklace (via Camp Comfort, one of my favorite stylists), Cut out sandal.

The truth of the matter is, I feel more like me in something a little more casual. This is why Jane Birkin is my perfect style muse for spring. Not only did she inspire my new bangs, she also inspired Hermes to create the Birkin bag. Can you imagine that conversation? Seriously, try. I idolize her effortless style. She makes jeans and a tee make me forget I don’t own the perfect cocktail attire. And that black dress? Three easy pieces, that’s all. You could easily wear it to a summer BBQ or a night on the town. Instead of searching for wedding season attire (can you tell I procrastinate?) here are a handful of pieces you could potentially add to your wardrobe. There’s a good chance you already own a few of them.

PS. You can find your own Jane Birkin basket here. Thanks to fieldguided for the tip!

weekend : big love – part 2

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

I don’t really know where to begin. I actually started and erased three times because whatever I typed wasn’t appropriately summing up this incredible weekend. Texas was incredible this past weekend, did I say that already? It deserves saying twice. There was BBQ, tacos, dancing into the wee hours on roof top patios, toasting, laughing, torrential downpours, and the best pool party I’ve been to in ages. It was topped off with a sunny and warm wedding day, a stunning bride and handsome groom. Congrats Jess and Cody, I wish you a lifetime of happiness.
