Mayer Hawthorne made his Denver debut at the Larimer Lounge last night and every lady in the house swooned. We all admittedly, were feeling the love. He was there to share and promote his 7″ heart shaped single, Just Aint Gonna Work Out and new album Strange Arrangement. Had I not been there, it would be hard to believe Mayer is a 29 year old white kid from a Detroit burb. His soulful falsetto and lyrics of love lost has him compared to Smokey Robinson and J.Dilla in the same sentence. So forget Motown and all the other comparisons. This is a revival and it’s all about progression. I can’t wait to hear what he comes up with next.
